"I heard you're demo and it really swings. Love you guys' music." Leon Rausch (Voice of the Texas Playboys)

"I enjoy it very much. It almost has a "Live" feel to it...Jimmy and Starla Oueen along with Dave Owens, Scotty Henderson, Ernie Reed, Lonnie Patterson, and others all work together to make this one a keeper...Scott Henderson not only plays some mighty fine steel guitar, he sings out of the ordinary swing tunes. Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens is in regular rotation on my bus. Even these Rock and Rollers who are traveling with me are learning to like this music and I can hear them sometimes singing Butter & Egg Man and Deep Purple. Jimmy Queen is wearing many hats here....He plays drums, horns, guitar and piano and does vocals....Congratulations on this most enjoyable swing KickA$$ CD....  Lynn Owsley (Texas Troubadour)

"You suppose Bob Wills ever met Louis Armstrong?  If he did, the result  might be the Jazzabillies.  When I'm not yakking, I love to listen to the Jazzabillies!  If they don't set  your toes to tappin', you're clinically dead." Jim Bohannon  -  America's Premier Late Night Radio Talk Program

I got wonderful listener reaction to "Detour" on "Swingin' West." I have "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" on my show. Scotty both plays some wicked steel licks and really belts out this old Louie Jordan and Asleep at the Wheel memory. Mike Gross, Swingin' West

"This is mostly swing music played as good as you will ever hear it. Earnie Reed did a wonderful job on fiddle. Asleep At the Wheel has nothing on this band. All of the musicians sing, and you find yourself trying to figure out which one sings best. Then you realize all of them are great singers. The band is simply the best you will ever hear, with Dave Owens on bass and Lonnie Patterson on {some} guitar. Starla Queen has a great voice. You need to get this CD."  Keith Hilton  (Hilton Pedals)

The new "Jazzabillies" CD is awesome.  Great music and great playing by all involved. Bobby Caldwell www.bobbycaldwell.net    ____________________________________________________________________________________________

The Jazzabillies have just completed their first album and it is quite an album of some very hot western swing. The individual musicians are each very talented on their own and should be familiar to most fans and followers of western swing music.

Jimmy Queen is heard playing drums, lead guitar, trumpet, trombone, sax, piano and harmonica. In addition, he is heard on vocal on the pop standard The Way You Look Tonight and a Merle Travis western swing standard remade as Big Gal. Jimmy's lovely wife, Starla Queen plays rhythm guitar and does the vocals on four very different tunes that show off her versatility. They are Ray Pennington's very hot Turn Me Loose And Let Me Swing, the country classic from Dottie West and Ray Price Here Comes My Baby, another very hot tune that shows off the entire band called Show Me and the pop and big band standard Deep Purple. Scotty Henderson is heard playing some very exciting steel guitar and handles the vocals on the old favorite Butter and Egg Man and Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens from Louie Jordan and Asleep At The Wheel. Dave Owens is the bass player and quite a vocalist on the Tommy Edwards pop standard All In The Game and two western swing favorites, Paul Westmoreland's Detour and the Johnny Bush gem From Tennessee To Texas. Former Mel Tillis Statesider, Ernie Reed is the fiddle player and Lonnie Patterson plays lead guitar on Show Me. The remaining cut in this 12 tune CD is the super instrumental Swingwalk.

"Jazzabillies is well accepted in our country music fans." Tom Kawaii, Japan

_____________________________________________________________________________

"The Jazzabillies are just like the name implies, a blend of jazz swing and Texas swing. It makes for a fun sound with a horn section together with steel and fiddle. Show Me is like a mix of two genres put in the same room, but the Jazzabillies make it work. The sound is unique, and energetic. Some songs lean more one way or the other, while other songs really blend the sounds of brass with steel guitar and fiddle. With each listen there is a draw to the dance floor, and feet will be tapping. The Jazzabillies claim that cowboy jazz is still alive, and after listening to Show Me it’s hard to deny that this music should stay around. It’s not hard to imagine the fun times that are to be had while playing the album. Overall Show Me is an exciting mix of instruments, and the songs are fun to listen to." - Powersource Magazine

"Jazzabillies are my kind out outfit. With just six musicians (four of them lead vocalists) the Jazzabillies make a sound just like a full blown western swing orchestra! “Show Me” (Q-Tone Records) is a really exciting experience and will appeal to a much larger audience than just country. Jazzabillies are a six-piece good-time band that blends western swing and honky tonk with a little jazz and blues to produce a sound that is both exciting and extremely listenable and that challenges the listener not to hit the repeat button. The widely experienced and highly talented ensemble features four lead vocalists; Jimmy Queen (lead guitar, piano, harmonica, drums, trumpet and sax), Starla Queen (rhythm guitar), Scotty Henderson (steel) and Dave Owens (upright bass). Completing the line-up is Ernie Reed (fiddle) and Lonnie Patterson (lead). “Show Me” (Q-Tone Records) offers a dozen varied tracks culled from a number of musical genres. Starla Queen (rhythm guitar) opens appropriately with a rousing the proceedings  with “Turn Me Loose And Let Me Swing”. The programme continues with what might almost be called a Ray Price reading of “All In The Game” (Owens lead & upright bass) followed by Scotty Henderson (steel guitar) with the blues  favourite “Butter And Egg Man”. Jimmy Queen (lead guitar, piano, harmonica, sax, trumpet, trombone and drums) sings the hell out of one of my favourite ballads, “The Way You Look Tonight”. “Swingwalk” is the only instrumental on the album and is a take on the Santo and Johnny hit, “Sleepwalk”.   Half way through the album Starla appears again, this time with a cover of Dottie West’s “Here comes My Baby” and, staying with more recognizable country titles, Dave Owens croons the country standard “Detour”. Scotty makes his second appearance with the novelty blues “Nobody Here But Us Chickens” and here’s Jimmy again with “Big Gal”. Starla is reprised with two consecutive numbers, the title track, “Show Me”, she revives  the popular classic “Deep Purple” and finally Dave closes the show with “From Tennessee To Texas”. A truly superb album! Completing this most satisfying album is;  “Big Gal” (Jimmy Queen), “Show Me” (Starla) and “From Tennessee To Texas” (Owens)."  Pete Smith Reviews

"THE JAZZABILLIES/SHOW ME. Westerm swing fans will love this one. All the ingredients are utilized in this one including a brass section a la BOB WILLS in his heydey. Other instruments include, electric lead, steel guitar, fiddle/strings, banjo(on one track), piano, bass, drums and harmony vocals. 12 performances. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" - Honkytonkin Music

"Cowboy jazz and Bob Wills-era swing are capably executed by the Missouri-based Jazzabillies, a smooth ensemble that specializes in retrofitting standards with danceable flair. Led up by bandleader Jimmy Queen, who smoothly revives "The Way You Look Tonight," each of the core musicians takes a turn at vocalizing. Bassist Dave Owens sounds a bit like Ray Price on his cover renditions of "All in the Game" and the country classic "Detour." Starla Queen evokes nostalgic longing with her version of "Here Comes My Baby" and the chipper "Turn Me Loose and Let Me Swing." Scotty Henderson does a serviceable job on Big Band-era staples "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" and "Butter and Egg Man," but he provides the disc's true highlight with his haunting steel guitar work on the instrumental "Swing Walk." In all likelihood, the disc which comprises 11 cover tunes and one riff-laden original, was crated to demonstrate the group's enviable chops and musical chemistry. However, a band this good shouldn't linger on a playlist of oldies forever. Versatile and blessed with a lot of arrangement savvy, the Jazzabillies easily cause a stir with new music in this crowd-pleasing style."   Ken Burke, Country Standard Time

Husband and wife team Starla and Jimmy Queen are the driving force behind the western swing band Jazzabillies. Jimmy (drums, lead guitar, trumpet, trombone, sax piano, harmonica, vocals) has performed with a host of top country names including Ray Pennington, Waylon Jennings, Ray Price, Sammi Smith along with many other star names. Starla (rhythm guitar, vocals) was the finalist in the Jimmy Dean Country Showdown and shared the stage with Johnny Bush and Curtis Potter. Other members of the Jazzabillies include Dave Owen (upright bass, vocals) who also has top musical credentials backing the likes of George Morgan, Wanda Jackson, Lefty Frizzell, Hank Williams Jnr, and a long list of other country legend performers. Kansas Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame member Scotty Henderson has worked with Charlie Daniels and Hank Thompson, while Fiddle Playing Ernie Reed appears courtesy of Mel Tillis.

Show Me ideally showcases the Jazzabillies sweeping musical capabilities with a fine selection of numbers. In the 1940's Louis Jordan popularised the fun song "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" with the song being recorded by many different bands over the years including Asleep At The Wheel. Released as their first single from the album with Scotty on lead vocals, the Jazzabillies give the number an easy style. Although well performed…I feel the band could have played-up the fun side of the song a little more. Opening the album the Jazzabillies ideally set the mood with Starla taking lead on "Turn Me Loose and Let Me Swing" leaving the listener in no doubt as to what this CD is all about, fully explaining swing with extracts of "San Antonio Rose" and "Take The A Train" incorporated in the arrangement…simply sensational!!! Dave Owens certainly does the song "All In The Game" the justice it deserves, and Scotty hitting the spot with "Butter and Egg Man".

Going back to the 1930's Fed Astaire is the first artist that I know of to record Jerome Kern's "The Way You Look Tonight". A host of soloists and vocal harmony groups has recorded the number over the years and even Rod Stewart gave it a distinctive quality on his 2001 album The Great American Songbook. Here Jimmy Queen gives it a nice bouncy interpretation, kicking the number off with another lease of life. I love the Jazzabillies interpretation of the instrumental "Sleepwalk", which they re-name as "Swingwalk". A great version of Artie Shaw's big band number "Deep Purple" sees Starla on lead vocals in addition to the title track "Show Me".

With teasing glimpses of musical brilliance and 12 well-crafted tracks on this outing, the Jazzabillies provide an awesome and unbeatable variety of swing all along the way. An album not to be missed, this is not your typical western swing album, but incorporates all the best elements that swing music has to offer!!!"  Graham Lees, UK . "Congratulations on your musical accomplishments with this recording project I have heard portions of the album and it is excellent. However, it stands to reason it would be great you have the best western swing bass player of all times working with you. Owens is the Charlie Parker of the upright bass and has one of the best voices of anyone in any genre' of music."  Kenny Burford

I would also like to send my congratulations for a job well done to the recording engineers who captured the sound perfectly. My hat's off to you all." Roy Anthony - Thamesville, Ontario, Canada

"I have just played the cd - I have never heard your music before, I ordered the cd when I read Leon Rausch said that your music really swings - I love Western Swing music so I took the chance and what a big surprise - the cd is simply awesome, what an excellent choice of songs.  Thank you for the great music, this is my cd for 2006.  Will you please mail me when you make a new cd - you can´t stop with this one !!!!!" John Mortensen (Denmark)

Gator writes "I have a treat for my listening audience. The Jazzabillies is a group that you will soon hear a lot about. Their music is mostly Western Swing music, but they play some kicking Country music as you will see when you go out and buy their newest CD "Show Me". Most groups have great music, but few have 4 Lead Singers. Many groups have Lead Guitar players, Jazzabillies have 2.

Many groups have a person in the band that can play several instruments. One of the leaders of the group Jimmy Queen is a Lead Guitar, Trumpet, Trombone, Sax, Piano and Harmonica player, plus sings lead on two tracks. Now dabbling in music since a child I can tell you the variety of instruments alone that Jimmy features is way beyond most musicians.

In this CD you will find some great and varied music styles. The first 5 tracks of the CD will give you an example of the greatness of the band. During those 5 tracks feature is the entire band. Track 1 "Turn Me Loose and Let me Swing", features Starla Queen doing a Western Swing song. Track 2 "All in the Game", features Dave Owens with his deep mellow voice doing a slow country type song. Track 3 "Butter and Egg Man" features Scott Henderson doing a swing song with a great voice. Scott is also the steel guitar player for the group. Track 4 "The Way You Look Tonight" features Jimmy Queen doing a country style song with yet another great voice. Track 5 "Swingwalk" is an Instrumental by the entire group. Starting at Track 6 through 12 you will be treated to more of the above. Each member doing solo's and give the listener an appreciation for this great Western Swing band. If you want to see how good Lonnie Patterson really is at playing lead guitar, listen to Track 10 "Show Me" the title track song by Starla and with a portion of the track where Starla introduces Lonnie. I thought it was a steel guitar that he was playing, he is awesome in this performance.

I highly recommend you go to the web links page, go to their site and buy 2 of the CD's, one for you and one for your best friend." I have review the CD and put the entire CD on my playlist - Excellent job!"
 Robert Partigianoni, Radio Louisiana
